Getting here for event organisers
It couldn’t be easier—or more flexible. Thanks to its central location in the heart of the Ruhr region, Essen is easy to reach by car, train or plane.
By car
Essen benefits from an excellent motorway network. With direct connections to the A3, A40 and A52, you are ideally connected to the national and international motorway network.
Essen environmental zone
When planning your journey, please note that an extensive environmental zone has been in place across the Ruhr region since 2012, stretching from Duisburg via Essen to Dortmund. Only vehicles displaying a green emissions sticker are permitted to enter the Ruhr environmental zone.
By train
Travel comfortably and sustainably by train. More than 100 IC, EC and ICE long-distance trains stop at Essen Central Station every day. All major tram and underground lines stop directly at the station, so you can also reach your destination in Essen easily by public transport.
By plane
Düsseldorf Airport is about 20 minutes away by car via the A52/A44. In addition, S-Bahn line S1, as well as several Regional-Express and long-distance trains, connect Essen with the airport (journey time approx. 21 minutes). With more than 500 take-offs and landings every day, it offers flights to over 170 destinations in Germany and abroad. Other nearby airports include Cologne/Bonn (around one hour by train) and Dortmund (about 45 minutes by car).
Combined Ticket and Corporate Ticket
The KombiTicket combines an event admission ticket with a ticket for the journey there and back.
