Right in the city centre and just a few minutes’ walk from the main railway station, the Astra Theater—with its small “Luna” auditorium—is probably the most centrally located cinema in Essen’s arthouse cinema group. Astra & Luna primarily screen new releases, but they also show a wide range of special programmes, including preview screenings, original-language versions and special film series.
The large auditorium and foyer have been preserved in their original 1950s style. Alongside the carefully curated programme, they offer a wonderful setting for a distinctive cinema experience. The cinema can also be booked for private events, including events that go beyond a film screening, such as talks, receptions or workshops.
