Filmstudio Glückauf
The Filmstudio Glückauf on the “Rü” in Essen is not only one of the oldest cinemas in North Rhine-Westphalia, but also the jewel in the crown of the region’s movie theatres.
Opened in 1924 and now restored down to the last detail, it’s above all the cinema’s charming atmosphere that delights more than just film buffs. Even outside the building, a historic film projector hints that something special awaits inside. A red-carpeted staircase leads to the historic foyer, with its 1950s-style bar, kidney-shaped tables and tulip lamps. As a cultural forum, the cinema can accommodate up to 250 people and remains an important venue for premieres, preview screenings and film talks with directors and actors. The trapezoidal stage also hosts a variety of other cultural events.
