Geological Wall at Kampmann Bridge

Here, more than almost anywhere else in Essen, you can see how the idyllic natural setting on the shores of Lake Baldeney once served the coal-mining industry.

Near the Kampmannbrücke in Heisingen, the Geological Wall reveals what the Ruhr region looks like “underground”—here, coal really does come straight out of the wall. Alongside the different layers of rock, you can also see entrances to original mine tunnels and mining equipment. A series of information panels provides helpful explanations of the subject.

The Geological Wall is part of the Geological Walking Trail.
