Grillo Theatre

The Grillo-Theater stands right in the heart of Essen. The neoclassical building was named after industrialist Friedrich Grillo, who gifted it to the city in 1887, laying the foundations for a highly successful theater tradition in the Ruhr region.

Today, the Grillo-Theater’s programme features works by contemporary authors as well as great classics of world literature. The CASA and BOX studio theatres also provide the perfect spaces for plays and material that call for an intimate chamber-theatre atmosphere.
