Grugahalle

At the heart of the Rhine-Ruhr cultural region, the Grugahalle has been presenting first-class entertainment for more than 65 years in Rüttenscheid, one of Essen’s trendiest districts. The Grugahalle is a concert venue for music stars and orchestras, a circus ring and an ice palace, as well as a place for sports such as tennis, handball, gymnastics, boxing and football. And that’s not all: whether federal party conventions, church gatherings, general meetings or trade union meetings, everything takes place beneath the Grugahalle’s distinctive butterfly-shaped roof. During the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games, the venue, with a capacity of 6,000 spectators, will host basketball.
