Hespertal Railway
The Hespertalbahn brings railway nostalgia to the lakeside in Essen. Pulled by a steam locomotive, the historic trains run from the Old Kupferdreh Station along Lake Baldeney to the ruins of Haus Scheppen Castle.
The last relic of heavy industry in the area travels at 15 km/h along the 4.6-kilometre route through what is now stunning natural scenery. Originally, this was the route to Pörtingsiepen Colliery.
