Messe Essen

Messe Essen is an outstanding example of reusing an existing venue. During the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games, the exhibition centre will open its doors to the world’s top student athletes competing in fencing, artistic gymnastics, judo, rhythmic gymnastics, table tennis and taekwondo. Founded in 1913, Messe Essen has continued to evolve over the decades. After being completely rebuilt in the 1950s, it underwent extensive modernisation in recent years and now covers a total area of 110,000 square metres. In a hall normally used for events such as German Film & Comic Con, the Essen Motor Show and the world’s largest board game fair, an equally exciting showcase of world-class university sport will take shape.
