A warm welcome to the Kleines Theater Essen at Gänsemarkt. One of the oldest independent theaters in NRW. Small and cozy, almost like a living room—that’s often the first impression. Getting there

Directions:

By public transport:
From Essen Hauptbahnhof, take the U-11, U-17, U-18, 105 or 101 to Berliner Platz. From Altendorf / Borbeck, take the 103 or 109. Go through the underground station and through EKZ Limbecker Platz towards the city centre / Limbecker Straße. Turn left at the ice cream parlour. The next cross street is Gänsemarkt. Turn right and cross the street. After approx. 50 m, you will find Das Kleine Theater Essen on the left, next to the parking deck.

Take bus 166 to Vereinstraße. Get off the bus and keep left. You will pass EKZ Limbecker Platz on your left, then turn right into Limbecker Straße (pedestrian zone). Turn left at the ice cream parlour. Then continue as above.

Take bus 145 / 147 to Berliner Platz. Go through EKZ Limbecker Platz towards the city centre / Limbecker Straße. Turn left at the ice cream parlour. Then continue as above.

By train:
From Essen Hauptbahnhof, go to the underground station. Take the underground towards Berliner Platz - Universität Essen (U-11, U-17, U-18). Then continue as above.

By car:
From Bottrop, Gladbeck, Gelsenkirchen, Altenessen, Stoppenberg and Katernberg, drive towards the city centre via Gladbeckerstraße. After the university (on your right), turn right at Rheinischer Platz underground station. At the first traffic light, get into the left-hand lane (sign for Kleines Theater). Turn left there, then immediately right. Continue straight ahead through the roundabout onto Kastanienallee. The road curves to the left and becomes Gänsemarkt. After approx. 50 m, you will find Das Kleine Theater on the left, next to the parking deck.

From Cologne, Düsseldorf and Mülheim (A 52, Rüttenscheid/Messe/Gruga exit), drive towards the city centre via Alfredstraße/Hindenburgstraße/Ostfeldstraße. Look out for signs for Kleines Theater. After the Limbecker Platz shopping centre (on your right), turn right and take the first exit at the roundabout onto Kastanienallee (sign for Kleines Theater). Then continue as above.
